The True Test of Relationships: Trust in the Creator During Life’s Trials

PoriPurno News Desk | August 11, 2025
Life is a journey filled with alternating waves of joy and sorrow, laughter and tears, gains and losses. At times, the days are bright with light; at others, dark clouds cover the sky. It is in these moments of hardship that a person’s true character is revealed — the one who steps forward, stands by your side, embraces you, and walks with you shoulder-to-shoulder. Such love, compassion, and presence cannot be repaid with money. It is not a debt to be cleared, but a blessing to be carried forever with gratitude and respect.
True relationships are tested in times of adversity. Friends, relatives, and loved ones may all cheer and stand by you when times are good. But when life falls apart, when your heart is shattered and tears flow, the one who embraces you without hesitation is recognized not just by the word “acquaintance” but by the word “love.” Such a person deserves the most honored place in your heart — for they embrace not only your body but also your loneliness.
Helping in Hardship Is Not a Debt — It Is a Blessing
Receiving help is not a financial debt. When someone sheds tears upon seeing yours, when they sacrifice their own peace for your grief, they expect nothing in return. They only wish to see you stand again, to walk forward again. This kind of love can never be repaid with money, gifts, or words of thanks. The only repayment is to hold that person in a lifelong place of respect and trust.
True humanity never calculates gains and losses. The one who holds you in your worst time has a heart of extraordinary compassion. Such a heart seeks no exchange. If you ever find someone embracing you in life’s darkest hour, do not think you are indebted; rather, be proud that you have been trusted with a place in such a person’s heart.
Life’s hardships teach us many lessons, but the greatest is this — to whom we should give the deepest place in our hearts. The one who embraces you in your worst moment forges a bond of love, gratitude, and respect that should never be broken. This is not a debt written on paper, but one written on the pages of the heart — a debt that can never be repaid, only preserved with care.
Spiritual Insight from Mawlana Jalaluddin Rumi (رحمه الله)
Mawlana Rumi said:
“The Creator has said: ‘Whoever you love more than Me, I will take them away from you and leave you alone. Never say you cannot live without someone, for I will show you that you can live without them. I will take away all emotions that tie you to the past, and I will carry you forward.’ Do you not see? Even the seasons change. The leaves of a shady tree dry and fall. Patience runs out. But your Lord is patient and Most Merciful — from the same dry branch, He makes green leaves grow again.”
Rumi’s words align perfectly with the Qur’anic truth that all relationships, fortunes, and states of the heart are under the control of Allah ﷻ.

Qur’anic Perspective
Allah ﷻ reminds us in the Qur’an:
﴿وَعَسَىٰٓ أَن تَكْرَهُوا۟ شَيْـًۭٔا وَهُوَ خَيْرٌۭ لَّكُمْ ۖ وَعَسَىٰٓ أَن تُحِبُّوا۟ شَيْـًۭٔا وَهُوَ شَرٌّۭ لَّكُمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ وَأَنتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ﴾
“But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah knows, while you know not.” (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:216)
In another verse, Allah ﷻ says:
﴿إِنَّ مَعَ ٱلۡعُسۡرِ يُسۡرٗا ٥ إِنَّ مَعَ ٱلۡعُسۡرِ يُسۡرٗا﴾
“Indeed, with hardship comes ease. Indeed, with hardship comes ease.” (Surah Ash-Sharh, 94:5-6)
Guidance from the Prophet ﷺ
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
«عَجَبًا لأمرِ المؤمنِ، إنَّ أمرَه كلَّه له خيرٌ، وليس ذلك لأحدٍ إلا للمؤمنِ؛ إن أصابتْه سَرَّاءُ شكرَ فكان خيرًا له، وإن أصابتْه ضَرَّاءُ صبرَ فكان خيرًا له»
“Wondrous is the affair of the believer, for there is good for him in every matter — and this is not for anyone except the believer. If something good happens to him, he is grateful and that is good for him. If something bad befalls him, he is patient and that is good for him.” (Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2999)
Final Reflection
In this strange world, friends may become foes, and foes may later become friends. The one you love most may betray you, and the one you never expected may stand by your side. That is why Allah ﷻ commands us to place our ultimate trust in Him alone. Human love is fragile; divine love is eternal. And when Allah ﷻ takes something away, it is only to replace it with something better — even if our eyes cannot yet see it.
The branches that lost their leaves will grow again. Your heart that once broke will beat strongly again. And your soul will find peace — not in people, but in the One who never leaves.
