Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, the Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, has been admitted to a private hospital in Dhaka for coronary bypass surgery after multiple blockages were detected in his heart.
According to party sources, Dr. Rahman was taken to the hospital on Saturday morning (August 2), accompanied by Jamaat’s Secretary General, Naib-e-Ameer, and other senior leaders. Doctors confirmed that five blockages were found in his coronary arteries, necessitating immediate medical intervention.
The Jamaat chief had earlier fallen ill on July 19 following his participation in the party’s national assembly at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital. He was rushed to a local private hospital at that time. While initial examinations ruled out any major complications, physicians suspected he had suffered from dehydration.
