Massive Rally in Dhaka by “Anti-Hegemony Muslim Unity Forum”: Sunni Youth Embrace ‘July’ Spirit and Oppose Indian Hegemony

In a massive rally held today in Dhaka under the banner of the “Anti-Hegemony Muslim Unity Forum,” the young generation of Bangladesh’s Sunni community made a significant political and ideological stand. In a declaration released during the gathering, the youths emphatically embraced the spirit of “July” and voiced a firm stance against Indian hegemony.
The rally’s momentum was fueled by growing outrage over ongoing humanitarian crises in Gaza, the persecution of the Rohingya in Myanmar’s Rakhine State, and broader concerns over Indian dominance in the subcontinent. Analysts are viewing this unified voice from the Sunni youth as a new source of hope and a critical milestone in the defense of Bangladesh’s independence and sovereignty.
Historically, sections of the Sunni community—particularly leadership figures from institutions such as Chittagong’s Jamiya Madrasa, the Maizbhandar Sharif, and the Atroshi Darbar in Faridpur—maintained close ties with the ruling Fascist League. However, today’s youth have broken from that tradition, stepping forward to champion national consciousness and the rights of the people.
Commentators note that while not everyone is destined to play a leading role in resistance movements—just as not all within the Qawmi sector could embody the defiant spirit of Junaid Babunagari, with many opting for the conciliatory path of leaders like Anas Madani—the current awakening among the new generation marks a distinctly positive shift in the political and social landscape of the country.
The declaration issued at the rally clearly stated:
“July belongs to everyone; the struggle against hegemony belongs to everyone.”
The gathering also demonstrated strong solidarity with the Palestinian cause, echoing the slogans:
“From the River to the Sea, Palestine Will Be Free,” and
“Inquilab Zindabad.”
Analysts suggest that this shift signifies the gradual disintegration of the “Joy Bangla Front” alliance orchestrated by the Awami League. Many of its former allies are now distancing themselves, and the bold stand taken by the Sunni community serves as a prominent example of this broader trend. Furthermore, this united awakening not only redefines the role of Bangladesh’s Sunni youth in domestic politics but also elevates their profile on the international stage.
There is widespread hope that the Sunni community will continue this courageous and nationalist path in the future, further strengthening their role in defending the freedom and sovereignty of the motherland.
