HSC Candidate Anisa Ahmed Denied Chance to Sit for Bengali First Paper Exam

PoriPurno News Desk | August 10, 2025

Anisa Ahmed, a Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinee from Laboratory School and College, has been unable to take her Bengali First Paper exam at the Bangla College examination center in Dhaka. On June 26, the first day of exams, Anisa arrived nearly one hour late, sparking widespread sympathy after photos of her tearful face went viral on social media.

Reports suggested that Anisa was delayed because she had to take her mother, who had suffered a stroke, to the hospital early that morning. Despite calls for leniency, education officials have stated that no official decision has been made to allow Anisa to retake the exam. Moreover, there is little chance such a decision will be taken.

Professor Khondokar Ehsanul Kabir, Chairman of the Dhaka Education Board, told Somokal that the board has not made any decision regarding Anisa’s situation.

Multiple sources at the Ministry of Education and Dhaka Board informed Somokal that the social media narrative surrounding Anisa’s case is not fully accurate. Under ministry directives, two separate investigation teams conducted inquiries and submitted reports, finding inconsistencies with Anisa’s claims.

Repeated attempts to reach Anisa for her comments on Saturday were unsuccessful.

Professor Kabir added that if a candidate misses one subject’s exam but scores at least 66 marks in that subject, they can still pass overall.

Anisa’s distress at missing the exam was captured on camera as she was seen crying outside the examination center. Social media users highlighted her difficult family situation, reporting that her father had passed away and that as the sole caretaker, she had to escort her mother to the hospital after the stroke, which caused her late arrival and denial of entry to the exam hall.

The incident has sparked debate over exam regulations and compassion for candidates facing personal hardships. However, education authorities maintain adherence to existing policies.
