Allegations Surface Over Senior Army Officer’s Prolonged Absence and Links to Militant Training

PoriPurno News Desk | August 10, 2025

Serious allegations have emerged against a senior officer of the Bangladesh Army’s 36 East Bengal Regiment under the 10 Infantry Division, stationed at Ramu Cantonment. Reports claim that Major Sadiq, serving as a company commander, was absent from his post for 198 days, allegedly engaging in activities outside official duties, including providing training to individuals linked to political and extremist groups.

Military protocols dictate that even a single day’s absence by a soldier is formally reported to the General Officer Commanding (GOC) through proper channels. Critics have questioned how a high-ranking officer with such responsibilities could remain absent for over six months without formal accountability.

Observers allege that both the Commanding Officer (CO) of the 36 East Bengal Regiment and the GOC of the 10 Infantry Division were aware of Major Sadiq’s prolonged absence and activities. It is further claimed that the Army’s intelligence wing, the Army Security Unit (ASU), had knowledge of the matter, though confirmation about the Defence Intelligence Directorate (DGFI) remains unclear.

Calls have been made for an independent investigation by civilian law enforcement rather than an internal military probe. Critics argue that any individuals found complicit, including senior commanding officers, should face legal action and be handed over to the police instead of remaining in military custody.

The allegations, if proven true, could raise serious questions about oversight, internal discipline, and the role of intelligence agencies in monitoring personnel conduct within the armed forces.
