Dr. Tuhin Malik Questions Unilateral Government Decisions on National Security and Sovereignty

The proposed “humanitarian corridor” to allow movement across the Bangladesh-Myanmar border amid the escalating humanitarian crisis in Rakhine has sparked intense debate among political analysts and national security experts. Many perceive this proposal as a direct threat to Bangladesh’s sovereignty and internal stability.
According to Dr. Malik, such decisions should not be left to the sole discretion of an interim government. “This is not just a diplomatic issue,” he stated, “it is deeply intertwined with internal security, social stability, and the future political landscape of the country. Therefore, a decision of this nature must be made with national consensus, ensuring all stakeholders are consulted.”

Criticizing the government’s current approach, Dr. Malik warned of signs of authoritarian drift. “This behavior resembles that of past fascist regimes—rigid, unilateral, and dismissive of democratic discourse. Democracy is not merely about holding elections; it is about embracing diverse opinions, making consultative decisions, and practicing inclusive governance.”
