Pakistani Women Join War Preparedness Amid Rising Tensions with India

Following a recent terrorist attack in the Kashmir region, tensions have escalated along the India-Pakistan border. In anticipation of a potential conflict, Pakistan has initiated extensive war preparations across the country. Alongside military drills, the involvement of civilian women in emergency response training has added a new dimension to the nation’s readiness strategy.
Civilian Women Undergo War-Time Rescue Training
For the first time, civilian women in Rawalpindi are being trained in “wartime rescue” operations. This initiative, jointly organized by the Civil Defense Department and the District Administration, aims to equip women with practical skills such as rescuing injured individuals, evacuating people from collapsed or burning buildings, and basic firefighting techniques.
The program is being led by female trainer Halima Sadia, who oversees the training of female volunteers. Senior instructors Nasir Kayani and Sadaf Zahoor are also conducting hands-on sessions for both male and female trainees.
Emergency Response System Upgraded in Rawalpindi
To prepare for potential wartime emergencies, 16 siren points have been upgraded and activated across Rawalpindi. Key locations include Kohinoor Mills, Railway Loco Shed, Pirwadhai Bus Stand, Viqar-un-Nisa College, Adiala Jail, and Chohar Chowk. Once the main siren is activated, alert signals will be transmitted to other areas, prompting checkpoint personnel and volunteers to respond swiftly.
38 Active Rescue and Monitoring Checkpoints
Currently, 38 rescue and monitoring checkpoints are operational around the city, functioning 24/7. Of these, 24 are managed by the Civil Defense Department, while the remaining 14 are overseen by Rescue 1122. Each post is manned around the clock, with dedicated staff on duty every day of the week.
3,500 Volunteers Ready for Deployment
The Civil Defense Department has mobilized 3,500 volunteers and youth participants for wartime training. Training sessions are being held at multiple locations, including Rawalpindi Cantonment Police Station, Mission Higher Secondary School in Raja Bazaar, and the Civil Defense Headquarters. A new training center is also scheduled to launch within 24 hours at Dennis Higher Secondary School.
Civil Defense Officer’s Statement
District Civil Defense Officer Talib Hussain told The Express Tribune, “Whether in times of peace or crisis, our department remains fully prepared.” He added that under the strict supervision of Deputy Commissioner Hasan Waqar Cheema, volunteers have been effectively organized and are actively participating in military drills.
He further noted that firefighting and rescue equipment has already been activated, and all personnel leave has been cancelled, with mandatory 24-hour duty instructions now in effect.
